A tall girl that eats a lot? That doesn't sound like our family...

Kira had her 12 month check-up today.  She is 31 inches long (96%), 24 pounds (89%), and her head is 47 centimeters around (93%).  I was actually surprised she didn't weigh more based on how much she eats.  Kira has always had a healthy appetite and I think I've only seen her refuse food about 3 times in her life.  The doctor didn't think this was a concern since she is proportionate in her measurements and is very active.  He said she is doing great and ahead of the curve on most of her developmental milestones!   I am so proud of her and want to share below what she is doing at this point in her life, especially since I probably won't get a chance to record all of this in her baby book.  ;)

Here are some things she is doing that they expect 13-15 month olds to be doing:

  • likes to turn pages of a book 2 or 3 at a time (she actually does 1 at a time, with and without voice prompts)

  • begins to walk with help (no help needed, she's a pro now!)

  • can identify family members in photographs

  • can say 4 to 10 words (I think around 10)

  • shows pride in a personal accomplishment (she has been doing this for about 2 months)

  • is affectionate to humans and objects (always wants to give dolls, stuffed animals, and other kids hugs!)

  • demands personal attention (bangs on my lap when she wants up)

  • recognizes self in mirror (and loves it!)

  • eats finger foods

  • sit on floor and roll a ball back to you

  • point to things (animals, shoes, etc.)

  • responds to key words

Here are some things she is doing that they expect 16-18 month olds to be doing:

  • enjoys creating noise and action, like splashing water

  • enjoys cause and effect "magic" (has figured out the power button on all remote controls)

  • responds to simple requests

  • says "all gone" (or "all done")

  • imitates adults (she'll try to copy me when I do sit-ups or jumping jacks)

  • pushes a stroller

  • squats down when she plays

  • knows when loved ones are gone

  • can be stubborn, shakes head and says "no!" (this only happened once and I'm not looking forward to hearing it more!)

  1. Those were Matthew's same measurements. Abby was a lot less than that (she was my peanut) and Dylan was higher than Matthew. He was off the charts on everything. That is too funny that she is right in line with Matthew as a baby.
