Road Trip

Two weeks ago I packed up the car and drove down to VA Beach with the kids and my friend, Rachel.  We were going to visit a good friend that we used to teach with.  The trip down was uneventful and we were looking forward to a few days of fun in  the sun and relaxation.  When we got to Kate's house her son was heading to the doctor because he had been complaining about his bottom hurting.  It turned out that he had strep butt.  Apparently your throat isn't the only place it can show up!  Since he was contagious we made the decision to pack the car back up and go home later that day.

We did manage to squeeze in a brief visit to the beach for the kids.  Kira had fun playing in the sand and getting her legs wet.  The water felt great and I wanted to go swimming but we didn't have time and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of changing into suits at the car.  This was Logan's first time at the beach (and his 8 month birthday!) and he enjoyed taking in the sights and getting his feet wet.

We were able to meet Kate for dinner before we let.  It was nice to catch up with her and hopefully we'll get to visit again soon, for a longer period of time.  The kids did great on the ride home and slept almost the whole way.  It was a lot of driving for one day and I packed for nothing, but we tried to put a positive spin on things.  Logan celebrated his 8 month birthday in a special way, Rachel and I were able to catch up a lot and see Kate, and Kira got to go on a fun adventure.  The great thing about Kira at this age is that she had no clue we were supposed to be there for 3 days!

We're looking forward to going back to the beach (Outer Banks) in two weeks.  Hopefully the weather will be sunny, warm, and hurricane-free when we go!
