Cabo San Lucas

Last week I was able to get away for a relaxing vacation with friends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  A lot of people thought I was crazy for traveling to Mexico, but Cabo is far from the border (at the very bottom tip of the Baja peninsula) and our resort was on a cliff and the only entrance was by a guard and gate.

We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and it was one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed at.  There were 6 of us on the trip (my friends from teaching) and we stayed in a Master Suite with a full kitchen.  We had a huge balcony overlooking the ocean and one of my favorite parts of the vacation was sitting on it each morning and drinking a cup of coffee while watching dolphins and migrating whales.

The resort was huge and very hilly so to get around you called for a golf cart to transport you.  These golf carts were specially made for this resort and were like an amusement park ride, especially when we got a fun driver who would whip around the bends in the road.

All of the restaurants at the resort were so good and made it hard to find a reason to leave and go into town.  On our first night we ate at a gourmet restaurant on the property and it was one of the best and fanciest meals I have ever had.  There were 5 waiters waiting on the 4 of us (2 girls came 2 days later) and they would give us samplings of local specialties in between courses and various things to complement food and cleanse our palates.  It was a pricey meal, but we were able to eat there for free thanks to a gift certificate Carrie and I got from sitting through a timeshare presentation (which was actually pretty fun and included a delicious breakfast!).  We had some nice meals al fresco and spent one chilly evening after dinner sitting by the fire pits near the beach and having dessert.  Even the food at the pools was gourmet and waiters would bring it to us while we lounged in the sun!

There were 6 pools on the property but we usually went to the pools at the sister resort next door (more on that later).  My favorite pool and hot tub were at the top of the resort (called the Sky Pool).  It was so amazing to sit in that hot tub at night and look at all of the stars and the full moon above us!  We were allowed to walk along the beach, but we couldn't go in the water because the waves are too rough.  I didn't believe this until I actually went down and saw them one day.  The smallest waves were over 10 feet high and had so much power behind them.
